本书属中社智库国家智库报告系列，郑和船队共计七次的远洋航海历程，时间上延续近三十年。船队到达了东南亚各国、印度洋北岸、阿拉伯诸国，最远到达非洲大陆东岸，并在这些地区留下了诸多历史文明遗迹。这一伟大的航海壮举为传播先进的中华文明、与世界各国的文化交流、扩展经贸往来，起到了极为重要的作用，并对后世产生了深远的影响。在人类航海史上，中华民族（也是人类）首次大规模海上船队进入浩瀚的印度洋，并与沿岸各国在贸易互通与文化传播等方面进行了长期交流，最终在世界航海史上划上了浓重的第一道彩虹。21世纪“海上丝路”的重铸，对我国以及世界经济的交联促进很大，(五通)可以将中国影响进一步辐射到北印度洋、中东国家、地中海沿岸和非洲地区，在扩大中国的经济影响力、打造中国软实力的同时，经济上对沿线国家均有重大利好，有利于新的欧亚商贸通道和区域经济发展带的进一步形成。因此，针对部分国家政府与民间对“海上丝路”的疑问，积极释义是首先要做好的。
