理查德・曼（Richard P.Feynman）1918年出生，1939年于麻省理工学院毕业后，进入普林斯顿大学研究院，又加入罗拉拉摩斯实验室，对原子弹的发展贡献卓著。1956年与薛温格和朝永振一郎共获诺贝尔物理奖。1988年2月困患癌症辞世。费曼的思想如天马行空，喜自辟蹊径，且从不固执，求知欲极强。他很爱恶作剧，但往往只为点出世间许多荒谬之处。确如《洛杉矶时报》所说的，“任何读这本书而不大笑出声的人，心理一定有毛病。”
