西方文化中的两希传统指的是希腊传统、希伯来传统。两种传统有着明显的异质性——耶路撒冷和雅典之争进行了两千多年，但两种传统又有着显而易见的交融，基督教神学就是明证。其中希腊传统又分为希腊神话传统、希腊哲学传统。这两种传统也是相互冲突，柏拉图的“诗哲之争”就是这种冲突的结果。希伯来传统又分为旧约传统和新约传统。这两种传统的互文性和差异性也是众所周知的。西方文化的精髓就在这样一些张力中彰显。本书选取了两种传统中的一些有趣的话题，将其做一种文学的、哲学的、文化的阐释，旨在深入探讨两希传统的特质，开拓读者的视野，对西方文化的源头有更清晰的了解。
